A Message From The Chairperson

Welcome everyone, I am thrilled and honoured to have been elected as ABC Chairman for season 2015/16. To lead a club that will celebrate its 94th year and to follow in the footsteps of the club's longest leader and good mate Neil Bryce is a big ask, but through our collective efforts I am confident we can enjoy a successful season.

The new Board of Management will continue to build on the many improvements and advances made last season and we have made some changes to the way we operate. In particular, we have increased our focus in the bowls portfolio to more evenly spread the workload. I thank all BoM members for their ongoing commitment to the club.

We will be supported by the Selection, Match, Bar, Social and Maintenance Committees, who work effectively to ensure all bowlers can play on top quality greens and social members and visitors can also enjoy the facilities. The BoM will continue to work diligently to plan for the future both on and off the greens - and we have hit the ground running!

On the greens we will field Saturday and Tuesday pennant sides, along with our Tuesday night and winter teams, which have been regular finalists (a great effort considering many players are novices). To improve our skills we will provide regular coaching for both novices and experienced bowlers plus (and back by popular demand) the ABC Novice Cup and other events aimed at beginners. Speaking of beginners, new bowlers are also welcome to join us for our monthly 'Turkey Triples' social games held on the 4th Sunday of every month - breakfast, bowls and prize money on offer, a great way to learn the game!

Off the greens we hope you will continue to enjoy our fun Friday nights with fine food from chef John Hand and his talented team, plus barefoot bowls and a social way to end the week. Our schools and AAA programs run with the community centre will continue and we ask that all members support these important initiatives.

I would be remiss not to mention that this year and in coming years, the AMCOR development will dominate the local community and members can be assured that the club will continue to be proactive in the decision making process. Being a significant development project, it is likely that there will be changes to the facilities and what we have been used to, and indeed the whole Alphington Park area, but ABC will continue to be the sporting and community hub in the area.

I wish all members and visitors all the best for the coming season.
